INVESTS IN THE ALFALFA SUPPLY CHAIN"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The new industrial plants of the Ferrara-based company L\u2019Erba del Persico have been inaugurated. The production capacity will be doubled, offering excellent, certified and traceable fodder. Thanks to investments made by the BF S.p.A. Group, the L\u2019Erba del Persico aims to become a leading global player in the fodder market. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocrim.com\/app\/uploads\/2022\/06\/federico-vecchioni.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ocrim.com\/app\/uploads\/2022\/06\/federico-vecchioni-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3187\" width=\"385\" height=\"256\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>It all began in <strong>1985<\/strong> when the <em><strong>Bruni<\/strong><\/em> <strong>brothers<\/strong> took over a cooperative stable so that it could store alfalfa. Ten years later, the brothers set up their <strong>first dehydration plant<\/strong>. Today, they have made a giant leap: in fact, once fully operational, the plant will bring the <strong>production capacity to 800,000 quintals per year<\/strong>, assigning the <em>L\u2019Erba del Persico<\/em> plays a key role in Italy\u2019s agri-food industry. We are in the small hamlet of <strong>Ripapersico<\/strong>, in the province of <strong>Ferrara<\/strong> (Emilia-Romagna) where the company\u2019s <strong>new industrial plants<\/strong> were inaugurated just a few days ago. Thanks to major <strong>investments by the BF S.p.A. Group<\/strong>, it is now equipped with state-of-the-art machinery for dehydrating alfalfa.<\/p>\n<p>BF Group\u2019s shareholding, in partnership with the <em><strong>Saltarelli-Migiani Group<\/strong><\/em>, in <em><strong>L\u2019Erba del Persico<\/strong><\/em> has allowed new strategies to be devised and new industrial targets to be set, as explained by <strong><em>Federico Vecchioni<\/em>, CEO of BF S.p.A.<\/strong>: <em>\u2018As shareholders of l\u2019Erba del Persico, we are delighted to see that this new production plant has been completed and is ready to be put into operation. This was made possible through investments that were intended <strong>to help strengthen agricultural entrepreneurship in Italy<\/strong> as part of a project aimed at internationalisation, which is its natural target market.<\/em> <em>At this time in history, marked by huge <strong>challenges both nationally and internationally<\/strong>, BF S.p.A. will continue \u2013 in its role as Italy\u2019s largest agribusiness company and in collaboration with<strong> major Italian businesses<\/strong> such as, in this case, the Saltarelli-Migiani Group \u2013 to work on projects that have positive economic and social implications for the areas in which it operates.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Today, <em>L\u2019Erba del Persico<\/em> has new facilities equipped with a <strong>high-tech plant<\/strong> that meets the highest <strong>standards of environmental sustainability<\/strong> and <strong>occupational safety<\/strong>. Having two integrated processes will effectively double its production output, which currently amounts to 400 quintals per year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>one line is dedicated <strong>to grinding and palletising fodder<\/strong> in order to produce what appears to be some kind of flour, which is then compacted so that it can be transported;<\/li>\n<li>the other line is for <strong>dehydrating alfalfa<\/strong>, which is no longer ground, resulting in long-fibre alfalfa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With the first line, a product that the farmers supply <em>L\u2019Erba del Persico<\/em> with, regardless of when it is harvested, is processed; with the second line, instead, a <strong>\u201cfresh\u201d product<\/strong> is processed, which has just been harvested from the lands owned by the farm <em><strong>Terre del Persico<\/strong><\/em> (2,000 hectares of agricultural land), resulting in a new product with greater <strong>added value<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The event was attended by <em><strong>Stefano Bonaccini<\/strong><\/em>, President of the Emilia-Romagna Regional Government, <em><strong>Alessio Mammi<\/strong><\/em>, Councillor for Agriculture of the Emilia-Romagna Region, <em><strong>Dario Bernardi<\/strong>,<\/em> Mayor of Portomaggiore, <em><strong>Enzo Gesmundo<\/strong><\/em>, Secretary General of Coldiretti, <em><strong>Paolo Bruni<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Tiziano Migiani<\/strong><\/em>, respectively President and CEO of L\u2019Erba del Persico, <em><strong>Federico Vecchioni<\/strong>,<\/em> CEO of BF S.p.A., and <em><strong>Mauro Saltarelli<\/strong><\/em> of the Saltarelli-Migiani Group.<\/p>\n<p>In this way, <em>L\u2019Erba del Persico<\/em> becomes one of Italy\u2019s key players when it comes to quality standards and production capacity in the animal feed supply chain, creating a link between alfalfa suppliers and farms all over the world, mostly located in <strong>Europe, China, Arab countries, and South Korea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alfalfa Is Good For Farming<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocrim.com\/app\/uploads\/2022\/06\/balle-erba.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ocrim.com\/app\/uploads\/2022\/06\/balle-erba-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3188\" width=\"410\" height=\"230\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Alfalfa is<\/strong> a highly prized product, which is vital not only for farmers rearing milk-producing cows, but also for farmers who do not have cowsheds and that need to plan <strong>crop rotations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has several very interesting <strong>agronomic advantages<\/strong>. The fact that it is cut regularly and grown for four to five years means that it <strong>drastically reduces the number of weeds<\/strong> that are usually found in cereal fields, and thus the use of weedkillers can be significantly reduced, and it also interrupts the reproductive cycles of certain insects that are harmful to maize.
